Development Plan for Wine Tourism in South Kosovo, Kosovo

EU financed project to improve the economy in the Southern part of Kosovo

The South of Kosovo, especially the region around the municipality of Rahovec, is famous for its wine production and therefore also has the potential to develop wine tourism – as a consequence the European Union decided in 2012 to finance a wine tourism development project handed in by the municipality of Rahovec. One element of the project was the preparation of a Development Plan for wine tourism in South Kosovo including the definition of concrete projects, which should be implemented later on with financial support of the main donors.

Currently wine tourism is only in its initial phase and consists mainly of one-day visitors from the nearby capital of Pristina. The main reasons for the limited amount of wine tourists are the lack of appropriate accommodation facilities, the shortage of wine tourism products as well as a lack of remarkable tourism facilities/attractions in the region.
